EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Exempt (Y/N): Y Supervisor: Board Chair

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director is the chief executive and administrative officer of the organization and is responsible to the Board of Directors for the full scope of activities, organizational structure, and procedures.

Function of Position:

Within the limits of the Bylaws and policies approved by the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for and has commensurate authority to accomplish the execution of the duties listed herein. The Executive Director may delegate as appropriate certain aspects of those responsibilities, along with corresponding authority. Ultimate responsibility and accountability for the operation of the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce may not be delegated.

Policy: Initiates plans and programs of the Chamber Board of Directors in accordance with established policies, as well as introducing new ideas; evaluates such programs and events of the Chamber and recommends changes in structure and procedures if needed; prepares agendas, maintains Board meeting minutes and records; serves as representative of the Board for contacts with the Chamber; assists the Board, committees, members, and staff in interpretation of Chamber position on public issues. Work with Board for short-term and long-term strategic planning.

Finance- Works with Finance/Executive Committee in preparation of the annual Chamber Budget and for long-term financial planning and investment of excess funds; responsible for all expenditures within the framework of the budget; supervise billing procedures, accounts payable and receivable, and oversees accounting operations; responsible for purchasing, storing and the use of all Chamber supplies and equipment (purchases must be authorized by the budget unless prior approval is obtained by the Board), purchasing such items from Chamber members whenever possible.

Personnel – Responsible for all staff personnel, assignment of duties, supervision of work and the continuation of on-the-job training programs to ensure participation in professional conferences, seminars and institutes as may be needed to develop and maintain a high degree of efficiency.

Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure communication of information throughout the organization.

Ensure that employees understand the mission and goals of the Chamber, maintain building and building cleanliness, handle, and project a warm and friendly attitude toward guests and fellow staff.

Negotiate with, administer, and evaluate contractual employees and service providers, including, but not limited to, accounting, audit, insurance, tax returns, and information technology to ensure smooth operations within the organization.

Membership – Works with the Board of Directors, Staff and Ambassadors to increase, and retain, membership at an optimum level; responsible for maintaining membership at a level which will ensure necessary income for the operation of the Chamber; prepares and plans literature to prospective members; serves as the Board contact for inquiries regarding membership.

Public Relations – Develop and supervises all public relations and publicity programs, coordinates news releases and information for publications with the standing and special event committees.

Maintain a cohesive relationship with the Town of Wickenburg and attend town council meetings as required.

Volunteers – Motivates and inspires volunteers to creative and fruitful action.

Headquarters – Is responsible, with the Board’s approval, for the location, design, and maintenance of headquarters and will provide an attractive, efficient operation for Chamber members, the Community, and visitors.

Beyond the Chamber

Serve as the spokesperson and advocate for the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce, effectively representing the organization to community, professional, governmental, civic, and private agencies, enhancing the organization’s public image to expand interest and support.

Attend appropriate professional meetings on national, regional, state, and local levels.

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management or communications, or certification in Chamber Management and minimum five years non-profit leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Experience

  • Strong conceptual and leadership abilities required.
  • Must possess an understanding and appreciation of the importance of sound public and employee relations.
  • Prior experience in working with a governing board is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising techniques.
  • Problem solving skills, delegation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively network for organization and interact effectively with community, members/sponsors, and artists.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Technological competency, including use of Microsoft Office suite, collections databases, and fundraising software.
  • Knowledge of general business practices and accounting.
  • Experience handling personnel matters.
  • Knowledge of non-profit tax law.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Membership in appropriate professional organizations.

Working Conditions

Office environment, non-standard hours, generally from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with extended hours and weekends probable. Overnight travel out-of-state is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Position: Member Sales & Retention Executive

Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce has an immediate opening for a Member Sales and Retention Executive. Pay is salary plus commission. Accomplished and enthusiastic sales executives with a seasoned track record of success should apply. The Flag Chamber is the largest rural Chamber in the state representing almost 1000-member business and non-profit investors. Member sales is a primary focus; member retention on past due invoices is secondary. Both pay commission in addition to the salary. Work as a team player on events and Chamber activities is also necessary. Meets monthly new membership sales goals; retains existing memberships; is a lead team member for dynamic revenue generating events; some project management on grant funded initiatives.

Self-motivated and success driven candidates will have a locally focused career track, many years of living in Flagstaff, experience with a successful track record in sales, and high level of communication skills. Work is in office at the Chamber with focus throughout the greater Flagstaff region and the State.

Previous work in a nonprofit organization is a plus.
