Job Description: Executive Director - Yuma County Chamber of Commerce

The most caring, engaging and generous community in Arizona is looking for its nest Executive Director for the Chamber of Commerce.

The Yuma County Chamber of Looking for that dynamic business organization leader who is ready to make a difference. With over 800 members, you'll be in the middle of the winter vegetable capitol of the world, between two major military bases, the Army's Yuma Proving Ground and the marine Corps Air Station, Yuma. 

Its Main Street was awarded Arizona's Best by the Arizona Office of Tourism, and winter events put on by the Caballeros de Yuma are world class. Yuma is home to Arizona Western College, and satellite campuses of NAU, UofA, and ASU.

Position Summary

The Executive Director of the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to promote the interests of the business community in Yuma County. The Executive Director will grow Chamber membership while increasing membership value for current members. This role works closely with the Board of Directors, local businesses, government officials, and community organizations to foster economic growth, advocate for business-friendly policies, and enhance the overall business climate in the region.

Key Responsibilities & Oversights

Leadership and Management

  • Develop and implement the Chamber’s strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide dynamic leadership to staff and members, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing environment.
  • Ensure alignment with mission, vision, and goals.
  • Manage all HR functions including hiring, terminations, performance reviews, compensation, and benefits.

Advocacy and Public Policy

  • Represent Chamber and member interests at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Advocate for business-friendly policies supporting economic development.
  • Build strong relationships with government, business and community leaders.

Membership Development

  • Oversee the development and execution of strategies to retain and attract members.
  • Guide methods to increase member engagement through programs, services, and networking.
  • Directly address member concerns and ensure needs are met.
  • Utilize the assistance of the Ambassadors with grace and appreciation.

Economic Development

  • Steward the promotion of Yuma County as a desirable business location.
  • Collaborate with economic development partners.
  • Encourage innovation, workforce development, and growth.

Financial Management

  • Oversee, communicate and understand budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting.
  • Maintains fiscal integrity through adherence to approved budgets, established controls, and ethical financial practices; promptly addresses variances and risks in conjunction with the accounting firm
  • Exercises independent judgment within Board‑approved strategy, budget, and policies; escalates material risks, legal issues, or deviations to the Board in a timely manner.
  • Ensure fiscal sustainability and diversified revenue.
  • Present completed financial reports to the Board.

Communications and Public Relations

  • Serve as primary spokesperson for the Chamber & Serves as the primary liaison to the Board; ensures accurate, timely, and complete information is provided to support governance, oversight, and fiduciary duties.
  • Conduct press media relations interactions
  • Oversee marketing, and social media.
  • Ensure chamber participation in all public events and meetings.

Program and Event Management

  • Lead the planning and evaluate programs and events.
  • Supervise to ensure quality execution and visibility.
  • Actively develop and maintain sponsorships and partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Marketing, or related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years leadership experience in a Chamber, economic development organization, or similar association.
  • Proven advocacy, financial, and strategic leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
  • Flexible schedule required.
  • Familiarity with Yuma County preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus.
